The New Millenium Motown
In 1979, a young basketball player was told by doctors that he had to quit playing, or risk having trouble walking normally when he got older. That ball player's nickname was "Spyder".
So Spyder, decided to become Spyder D, rapper, music producer, and record label founder, at the age of nineteen. That label was named Newtroit Records, combining New York and Detroit.
It was THE first label owned and operated by a rap artist anywhere! It was the first rap record produced in the Detroit area. The song "Big Apple Rappin'" is considered an early Hip-Hop classic!
